The word “leader” conjures up images of charismatic figures who inspire people to rally around a cause or follow their vision for the future. While some leaders are known for their ability to raise significant sums of money or win battles in war zones, others leave a more subtle mark on the world: they make it better.
These impactful leaders can be found at all levels of an organization, whether it’s corporate or nonprofit. They’re not remembered for their great speeches, but rather for how they made people feel and for leaving an organization in a better place than it was before they arrived.

They’re able to be a role model for the rest of the team, which allows them to inspire others to follow their lead. They’re able to balance humility with charismatic confidence, and they use their unique skill sets to achieve the company’s goals.
Lastly, an impactful leader must be able to set and maintain boundaries for themselves. They’re able to say no when needed, and they’re willing to defend their projects from higher-ups that want to cut costs. They’re also careful (but not stingy) with their project budgets.
Being an impactful leader isn’t easy, but it’s possible. The right mix of characteristics will set you apart from other leaders and allow you to reach your full potential.
